Team Liquid launches blockchain platform MyBlue for fans

20 November 2024

Ever since its inception back in 2000, Team Liquid has been at the forefront of international esports. The organization, which was founded in the Netherlands but is based mainly in North America nowadays, competes at the highest level in various titles, including League of Legends and Counterstrike, but it’s not about their in-game achievements this time. No, this time it’s about Team Liquid further growing its presence in the world of blockchain. After signing a partnership with crypto exchange Coinbase in 2021, the organization has now announced the launch of a brand-new fan engagement platform on the Sui blockchain.

Focus on community building

The goal of Team Liquid’s latest venture is to provide yet another opportunity for fans and followers to interact with the organization. By choosing a blockchain platform like SUI, which was created by Mysten Labs, Team Liquid also wants to capitalize on the growing interest in the world of blockchain amongst gamers. The idea behind the platform is give fans access to all kinds of unique on-chain challenges and quests with which they can win digital rewards, as well real-world items like exclusively Team Liquid jerseys and discounts for the official Team Liquid store.

“Liquid fam, are you ready?”, writes Team Liquid on their own website, “Join MyBlue to customize your own version of Blue, Team Liquid’s mascot. Complete quests, earn exclusive digital and physical rewards, climb the leaderboards, and connect with other fans! Engage with the community and showcase your achievements.”

MyBlue launch

MyBlue was officially launched on Thursday, November 14th, with a celebration event that was livestreamed on Team Liquid’s official Twitch account. The organization created various games and challenges for players, including the world’s largest crane game and an “Ultimate Fandom Kit” giveaway that included exclusive offers for the Team Liquid and Alienware peripherals. What makes the launch on the Sui blockchain special, is that, like on any other blockchain, all of the digital assets obtained by players and fans become directly and completely owned by them.

At the same time, there are plenty of people who do not have experience with blockchain yet. This might hamper MyBlue adoption, which is why Team Liquid and Mysten Labs have opted for a simple way to create a MyBlue account and log into it. Fans can just create one using familiar credentials, for example their Google or Twitch logins, to immediately gain access to the MyBlue platform.

“We’re excited to launch MyBlue to our fans, as well as the wider esports and gaming communities. Thanks to our partnership with Mysten Labs, we’ve taken the best parts of Liquid+ and upgraded it by integrating Sui to make the ultimate fan platform”, says Steve Arhancet, co-CEO at Team Liquid, in reaction to the MyBlue announcement, “Fans show up for us, and MyBlue will enable us to keep showing up for them by offering amazing experiences and unique rewards. I can’t wait for all our fans to get their own Blue!”
