New global partnership between Riot Games and HP

17 January 2024

Over the past years, California-based Riot Games has grown into one of the biggest names in the international esports industry. The American game studio is the creator of some of the biggest titles and franchises in international esports history, including hugely popular League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics and VALORANT. As a result, all eyes are constantly on Riot as the company continues to position itself as one of the key players in global esports. Recently, for example, the announcement of a new global partnership between Riot Games and hardware manufacturer HP grabbed esports headlines everywhere. The developer will be closely collaborating with HP gaming brands HyperX and OMEN on a worldwide level.

Official technology partner

Riot has announced HP, through its brands HyperX and OMEN, as the studio’s new official technology partner. Most esports players and fans will already be familiar with OMEN, as it is HP’s flagship gaming and esports brand, with a focus on gaming computers, screens and other hardware. HyperX is a more specialized HP brand focused on high-end computer peripherals, including mice, keyboards and headsets. Both brands will be supporting LAN events all over the world for three Riot titles, for the moment, with those being League of Legends, VALORANT and Teamfight Tactics.

“As an official technology partner for Riot Games, OMEN and HyperX will now lend their hardware and technology expertise to power our global events for LoL Esports, the VALORANT Champions Tour, and TFT Esports”, writes Riot Games on its own website, “We’ll also collaborate to best serve players by co-developing future products specifically designed for our esports. Stay tuned for more information on how this partnership will impact esports events and players around the world.”

Events and activities

The new partnership between Riot Games and HP reaches further than the support of global events for the studio’s major esports titles. The brands will also collaborate on events and marketing campaigns, digital activities and on-site activations. On top of that, the HyperX and OMEN brands will also get branded segments and product placement opportunities during official Riot Games competitions, including the VALORANT Champions Tour and the League of Legends World Championship (or “Worlds”).

“Riot Games aspires to be the most player-focused gaming company in the world”, says John Needham, President of Esports at Riot Games, “Securing this partnership with HP will enable us to go even further in developing experiences that will thrill our players. As a progressive tech leader, HP is the perfect partner with which to collaborate, and we’re very excited to share what our two teams will create for players.”

It's not the first time that these brands have found each other in the international esports world, though it is the largest-scale collaboration between them so far. In the past, for example, HyperX was already an official VALORANT Champions Tour partner, while OMEN spent some time as the official PC partner for the VALORANT Champions Tour Pacific.
